DuniyaDots

Support

DuniyaDots is a quiet app with no account and no server, so there is nothing to sign into and nothing to recover. Most questions are answered below. If yours isn't, email us.

It helps if you tell us your device and iOS version, what you expected to happen, and what happened instead. Screenshots are very welcome. We read everything, though we can't promise a reply to every message.

Prayer times

How are prayer times calculated?

Times are calculated on your device from your coordinates and the calculation method you choose in Settings › Calculation. Nothing is downloaded, and the app works fully offline.

Which calculation method should I choose?

Pick whichever is used by the mosque or authority nearest you. The six available are Muslim World League, ISNA (North America), Umm al-Qura, Egyptian General Authority, University of Karachi, and Moonsighting Committee.

There is no universally correct answer — the methods differ in the twilight angle they use for Fajr and Isha. Following your local mosque is the most reliable rule.

The times are a minute or two off my local mosque

Set the method first, then fine-tune. Settings › Time adjustments lets you nudge each prayer individually in minutes — for example Fajr +2 or Isha −3.

The Asr time looks early or late

Asr depends on the juristic method. The Shafi'i method is earlier; the Hanafi method is later. Switch between them in Settings › Calculation.

Summer times look odd where I live

At high latitudes the sun may not dip far enough below the horizon for a normal Fajr or Isha, so a high-latitude rule is applied. You can change which one is used in Settings › Calculation.

Can I use the app without granting location access?

Yes, and it is a first-class option rather than a degraded one. Choose a city by hand in Settings › Location, or from the prompt on the Today screen. Prayer times are then calculated from that city.

I granted location access by mistake. Can I take it back?

Yes — iOS Settings › Privacy & Security › Location Services. The app keeps working from whatever city you set by hand. Revoking access never locks you out.

Tracking and history

Why does a past day say “not logged”?

The app never assumes you missed a prayer. A day stays blank until you log it yourself, and you can fill in earlier days from History at any time. Nothing is silently marked against you.

What do the dot states mean?

An outlined dot is a prayer you haven't logged yet. A filled dot is one you marked as prayed. You can tap any dot to change it, on today or on any past day.

Can I fill in a day I missed?

Yes. Open History, tap the day, and mark the prayers you prayed. You can also narrow the matrix to a single prayer, such as Fajr alone, to see the shape of one habit.

Changing my location changed my history

It doesn't. Your prayer records are independent of location and calculation method — only future prayer times change. Historical records are never recalculated or removed.

Reminders

I'm not getting reminders

Two things to check, in order:

Can reminders arrive before the prayer time?

Yes. Under Settings › Reminders, set Remind me to At prayer time, or 5, 10 or 15 minutes before.

Do reminders need an internet connection?

No. Reminders are scheduled locally by iOS. There is no push server, and nothing about your reminders leaves the device.

Widgets

Which widgets are available?

Home Screen small and medium widgets, and Lock Screen circular and rectangular widgets. The small widget shows today's five dots and your count; the medium widget lists the prayers with their times and the next prayer.

Can I mark a prayer from the widget?

Yes. Tap a prayer in the Home Screen widget and it is marked as prayed immediately, without opening the app. It writes to the same data the app uses, so the app reflects it next time you open it.

The widget looks out of date

Widgets refresh on the system's schedule, not continuously, so a change can take a short while to appear. Marking a prayer from the widget itself updates it immediately. Removing and re-adding the widget also forces a rebuild.

Wallpaper

The dots sit underneath my clock

Turn on Show the safe area in the Wallpaper screen. It marks the strips iOS reserves for the status bar, clock and widgets, the buttons, and the dock, so you can place your dots where they will actually be seen. The guide is only a preview aid — it is never part of the exported image.

Can I put the dots over my own photo?

Yes. Choose Photo as the background, pick an image, then use Dim the photo and Soften the photo until the dots read clearly. The photo is composited on your device and is never uploaded.

Can the wallpaper update itself as my dots change?

Yes, through Shortcuts — one minute of setup, once. Tap Set as background on the Wallpaper screen and the app walks you through it: open Shortcuts, add the action DuniyaDots Wallpaper, add Set Wallpaper Photo and choose Lock Screen or Home Screen, then name the shortcut exactly DuniyaDots Wallpaper.

From then on, tap Update background on the Wallpaper screen whenever you want it brought up to date. To have it happen on its own, add an automation in Shortcuts › Automation that runs when you close DuniyaDots — your background then refreshes each time you finish logging.

A saved image on its own is just a snapshot: it shows your dots as they were when you made it, so re-export it after your dots change.

Why does setting the wallpaper go through Shortcuts?

Because iOS gives apps no way to set or change your wallpaper. That is deliberate — it is what stops any app from changing what you see behind your clock. Shortcuts is the one supported route, and it asks for your permission the first time. The app's job is to build the image; Shortcuts' job is to install it. The DuniyaDots widget remains the always-current option with no setup at all.

Where did my chosen photo go?

It is kept inside the app's own storage on your device, so a shortcut run later rebuilds the same wallpaper rather than dropping back to a plain colour. It never leaves your device.

Your data

Where is my data stored?

Entirely on your device. There is no account, no server and no analytics, so nothing you log is ever uploaded. See the privacy policy for the detail.

Can I move my history to a new phone?

Not yet. Prayer history lives in the app's on-device database and the app has no export or sync, so it does not transfer between devices, and it is removed if you delete the app. We would rather say this plainly than have you find out later.

How do I erase everything?

Settings › Reset all data removes every prayer record and reflection immediately and cannot be undone. Deleting the app also removes all of it.

Requests and bugs

How do I ask for a feature or report a bug?

Email info@qshoppro.com. Please mention your device and iOS version, and describe what you expected and what happened instead.

What about Qibla, a Quran reader, or Ramadan features?

Not in this version, and deliberately so — DuniyaDots is scoped to prayer consistency and reflection. Suggestions are genuinely welcome.
